Genesis 21-30


 

Genesis 21

1-2     Sarah pregnant in old age.

    3    Son born to be named Issac.

    4    Issac circumcised at eight days old.

     5   Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born.

 6-7   All will laugh with Sarah, for she had a baby in her old age.

     8  Great feast for Issac.

10      Ishmael cast out!

12      God told Abraham to listen to Sarah.

12-13 Both sons will make great nations.

14-16 Hagar and Ishmael sent away with provisions.

17-21  Told to arise, for Ishmael will make a great nation.

22-24   Oath made by Abraham to Abimelech.

23-25 Quarrel between Abraham and Abimelech

26-31  Beersheba

30-36  Abraham plants a terebinth tree, and stays in the Philistine land many days.


Genesis Twenty-Two


1-2       God tests Abraham to see if any man would later do what He would have to do to His Son.

3-6        Prepare to make a human sacrifice.

7-8        Issac asks where the lamb is.  Abraham says God will provide.  Do we trust God to provide for us?

9-10      Abraham almost sacrifices his only son.

11-13    The Angel of God stops him.  Have we ever been stopped by God before?

14          The Lord will provide.

15-18     Abraham rewarded for obedience!  Are we rewarded for our obedience?


Genesis Twenty-Three


1-2        Sarah died at 127 years old.

3-18      Abraham buys a burial plot from the Sons of Heth.

19-20    Machpelah deeded to Abraham for burial plot.


Genesis Twenty-Four

1-4        When Abraham is old, he makes a servant find a faithful wife for Issac.

5-8         Sign given to servant.

9-10      Servant & Master Covenant

11-14    Plea to God

15-16     Meeting Rebekah

17-20     Pledge Foretold

22-25     Rebekah tells of who she is.

26-27      Servant Worships God

29-32     Laban, Rebekah's Brother

34-41      Servant tells of errand.  What is our errand for God?

50-51      Laban and Bethuel wish the servant goodwill and send Rebekah.

52-54       Gifts and a party.

55-59      Sends Rebekah on her journey.

60            Rebekah's blessing

61-67       Rebekah and Issac meet, and become one.


Genesis Twenty-Five


1-6          Abraham and Keturah with their offspring and gifts.

    7          Abraham lived 175 years, and then he died.

9-10         Abraham was buried next to Sarah, his wife. 

12-16        Ishmael's Offspring

17-18        Ishmael lived 137 years, and then he died in the presence of his family.

20-22         Rebekah was barren.

23               Foretells of two twins, Jacob & Esau.  Esau meant hairy & Jacob meant supplanter.

27-28          Which parent loved which child the more?

29                Jacob cooked stew.

30                Esau asks for red stew & his name is changed to Edom.

31-34           Esau sells birthright to Jacob.

Genesis Twenty-Six

1                 Famine in the land.

2-6              Issac is told by God to stay in Gerar.

7-11            The Great Lie

12-14          Issac became prosperous in the Philistine land.

16-19          Sent out of the Philistine land into the Valley of Gerar.

20-22          Quarrel over the well.

23-25            God comes to Issac at Beersheba.

26-31           Visitors come and make oath, leaving in peace after a banquet and a night's rest.

32-33             Well of Sheba, city of Beersheba.

34-35            Esau took wives, which caused much grief to his parents.  


Genesis Twenty-Seven


1-4               Issac told his older son, Esau, to catch him game and make him a savory stew.

5-17             Rebekah lays a plot against her older son, Esau.

18-26            Plot Works

27-29           Israel gives a blessing to Jacob by mistake.

30-36           Esau's anger towards Jacob.

37-38            Plea for a blessing.

39-40            Esau's Blessing

41-46            Rebekah sends Jacob away to Laban, her brother.


Genesis Twenty-Eight

1-2                Jacob is told to get a wife from Laban, his mother's brother.

3-4               Blessing to Jacob

5                  Jacob sent away.

7-9               Blessing seen and heard by Esau.

11-16           Jacob's Dream

17-19           Luz changed to Bethel

20-22           Vow made by Jacob to God.

Genesis Twenty-Nine

1-3                   Stone on well to water sheep.

4-8                 High noon roll stone for cattle.

9-11                Jacob meets Rachel the shepherdess.

12-14              Jacob meets Laban, and stays for a month.

15-19             Dowry for Rachel

20-26             Tricked and given Leah instead.

27-30              Service for Rachel

31-34              Jacob & Leah's sons


Genesis Thirty

1-2                Jacob and Rachel's Spat

5-8                Bilhah and Jacob's Sons

9-13             Zilpah & Jacob's Sons

14-15           Issue of mandrakes

16-21           Jacob and Leah's youngest three.

22-24           God recalls Rachel, and Joseph is born.

25-26          Jacob asks Laban if he can leave.

27-34          Jacob and Laban's agreement.

35-43           Jacob is made exceedingly rich.
