Planted By The Rivers of Water
Psalms 1:3
"He is like a tree
planted by streams of water..."ESV
Job 8:11
"Can the papyrus grow where there is no marsh?
Can the reeds flourish where there is no water?"ESV
In both cases, this speaks of water, a nourishment of life. A thing needed for physical as well as
Spiritual growth. From the very beginning, we need water to be born of the Spirit. In Mark 16:16, it says, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved..." Then in I Peter 3:21 it says,
"There is also an antitype which does now save us-baptism
(not the removal of the filth of flesh, but the answer of a
good conscience toward God) through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ.
Here, we are told baptism is not necessary for the removal of physical filth, but spiritual filth. In I John 5:6-8, it tells us that both water and the blood of Christ are necessary for Salvation.
So to be planted by waters means our roots will be strong in the soil. To be baptized in Christ
if our roots are strongly planted we will "rightly divide the Word of Truth" (Psalms 1:1) To rightly divide the Word of Truth means you study it and meditate on His Word day and night (Psalms 1:2) It does not matter how much of His Law that you meditate on, as long as you meditate on it. As you mature and grow in Spirit, you will find you want more and more of the Scripture, as well as other spiritual food.
