Finding Value In God I Timothy 6:6-12

Do we find value in God, or do we find our value someplace else?  In I Timothy 6:6 we find it

says, "godliness with contentment is great gain."  The word godliness comes from the Greek word

eusebeia which means, piety, specifically the gospel scheme, godliness, holiness.  The word

contentment on the other hand comes from the Greek word autarkeia which means self-satisfaction.

So, according to this verse alone our value should be in God.

For if our self-satisfaction is found in God then so will our lives be.  If, however, our godliness

makes us content then we too should want to "go out and preach the gospel to every creature

making new Christians." Mark 16:15-16 For you see if truly we find value in God we would want to go

out preaching Christ was crucified and resurrected for our sins.

In verse 7 it says, "we brought nothing into this world, and is certain we will bring nothing out."

From the carnal since this is true, but spiritually our works on earth will be remembered on the other

side.   For in this world, we might be recalled by our grandchildren.  But our spiritual works will be

recalled in the next life.  The works I'm talking about are works such as Bible studies that brings others

to Christ and builds up the church.   Likewise, if our deeds were evil, they will also be recalled in

this life, as well as the next.  Deeds in this case such as tearing up the churches, abuse of women or

children, and others.

Verses 9 through 10 talks about the love of money.  This does not mean we do not need money,

for we do.  For we are told in verse 8 to be happy with food and clothing, and we need money to buy

these things.  To love money, however, and not give things to those who are in need is a sin.  To keep

money from the poor saints, or from the church in general is the root of sin.  For that is the love of

 money.

Then as we close it tells us in verse 12 what to go after.  It tells us to go after righteousness,

godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.  We are also told the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians

5:22-23 they are as follows, "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness, self-control...".   So, should we find value in God?  My answer would be according to the

gospel yes, we should.  If we place our value in earthy things we are placing, it in the wrong things.
